Scientific Name: Columba palumbus

Appearance: Large size. Uniform dark slate-grey head and back with paler grey rump. Bold white patch on side of neck. Deep pink breast. Dark outer-wings and broad white stripe across mid-wings displayed in flight. Sexes alike.

Song: Deep, muffled, five-note territorial coo, with increased emphasis on the second note, cu-cooo-cu, cu-coo.

When heard: Resident. Coo may be heard more or less year-round, but less frequently in autumn and winter months.
