Scientific Name: Passer montanus

Appearance: Crown and nape rich rufous-brown. Black spot on whitish cheeks, black ‘mask’ and small, black ‘bib’ on throat. White collar. Back brown, streaked black. Underparts unmarked grey-buff. Double, thin, whitish wing-bar and buffish rump visible in flight. Sexes alike.

Song: Simple, bright, monotonous chirrup, similar to house sparrow, but readily distinguishable with experience.

When heard: Resident. Male chirping song produced during breeding period, from February through to September.
